  WHAT IS LATEX ALLERGY

Latex is harmless to most people. But for some, like other things in nature - shellfish, bee stings, peanuts, venom - latex can cause health problems. There are two types of allergic reactions. One to the latex protein, a natural component of rubber (Type I reaction), and the other to the chemicals used in processing natural rubber products (Type IV reaction).

The effects of latex allergy can range from a mild rash to an anaphylactic shock. Anaphylyaxis can lead to death if untreated.

You can read more about people's experiences with latex allergy in Case studies.
